Student Projects and Research  

Kellogg students interested in employment with media companies upon their graduation can major in Media Management. Requirements for majoring in Media Management can be found here. Below is a sample of projects and case studies authored by these students. Also included is a listing of events either co-sponsored by Kellogg and the Center, or sponsored by Kellogg with assistance from the Center.

 

Prizes and Awards

Kellogg students win Rice University Marketing Case Competition

Kellogg students Jimmy Bennett, Todd Cruise, Elizabeth Gipson and Michael Unton (all Class of 2008) took home the top prize in the 8th annual Rice University Marketing Case Competition, held January 25-26, 2008 at Rice's campus in Houston, Texas. Jimmy Bennett and Elizabeth Gipson both were Media Management majors at Kellogg.


Projects

Pehli Leher (First Wave)

This film, produced by McCormick Scholar Suneel Gupta, documents the experiences of first-generation immigrants from India. Gupta is a 2008 graduate from both Northwestern University's Law School and Kellogg.

 

Case Studies

Jones (PDF) (coming soon)

This case examines a magazine created with professional African-American women as its focus. It was written by Kailei Richardson, a 2006 Kellogg graduate and a McCormick Scholar.

LinkTV (PDF)

This case profiles the "first nationwide television network providing Americans with a global perspective on current events and diverse cultures". This case was authored by Scott Rupp, who received an MEM (Master of Engineering Management) degree from the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, and an MBA from Kellogg in 2004.

Radio One (PDF)

This case focuses on an expanding broadcasting company that seeks to incorporate stations with different formats. This case was authored by Lisa Givens, who received a JD degree from the NU's Law School and an MBA from Kellogg.

From the classroom to the trenches, from Madison Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue, this invitation-only event aims to achieve a dynamic cross-pollination of ideas and best practices. It was organized by Rohit Gupta, a 2008 MBA graduate.

Social Media Marketing Symposium
May 9, 2007

The changing media landscape and strategies for marketing in these new environments was scrutinized at this one-day event. It was organized by Jillian Crawford, a 2008 JD-MBA graduate and McCormick Scholar.
